2024 Document Releases
2024 was the most significant year for document transparency in the Epstein case. Judge Preska's unsealing orders in the Giuffre v. Maxwell civil case released thousands of pages of previously sealed court records, naming dozens of individuals connected to Epstein's network.
Background: The 2024 Unsealing
On January 3, 2024, U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska ordered the unsealing of documents from Virginia Giuffre v. Ghislaine Maxwell (S.D.N.Y.), a civil defamation case settled in 2017. The documents had been sealed for years under a protective order. The unsealing proceeded in batches over several months, culminating in the release of over 5,800 pages of depositions, exhibits, travel records, and correspondence — the most comprehensive disclosure in the case's history.
