In September 1975, Jeffrey Epstein began teaching at the prestigious Dalton School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He was hired by headmaster Donald Barrfather of future U.S. Attorney General William Barrdespite having no college degree. Epstein had attended Cooper Union and New York University but completed neither program.
At Dalton, Epstein taught mathematics and physics to older students. Colleagues and students described him as unorthodox but engaging, skilled at making complex material interesting. The position gave him his first sustained access to the families of wealthy, powerful New Yorkers.
Epstein left Dalton in 1976 to pursue a career in finance. The connections he made through the school proved instrumental in opening doors on Wall Street.
