Epstein Granted Power of Attorney Over Wexner's Affairs
Les Wexner signed a sweeping power of attorney granting Jeffrey Epstein authority over his financial affairs, real estate, and personal decisions — an extraordinary legal instrument that gave Epstein control unprecedented for any financial advisor.
People Involved
In 1987, Les Wexner signed a power of attorney granting Jeffrey Epstein authority to manage his financial affairs, make decisions about real estate, and act in his name across a broad range of circumstances. The document gave Epstein control that went far beyond what typical financial advisors hold.
The power of attorney allowed Epstein to buy and sell real estate, negotiate deals, and make financial decisions on Wexner’s behalf without seeking approval for each individual transaction. It was, in the assessment of legal observers who examined it after its existence became known, an extraordinarily broad grant of authority.
The instrument appears to have been effective for approximately two decades — through the period during which Epstein transferred substantial Wexner assets (including the New York townhouse) to himself. Wexner later claimed he had been defrauded through the arrangement.
