In 1999, Jeffrey Epstein established the Jeffrey VI Foundation in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The foundation was one of several legal entities he created in the USVIalongside Southern Trust Companyas part of a strategy to take advantage of the territory’s Economic Development Commission tax incentive programs.
The USVI’s EDC program offered substantial tax exemptions to businesses operating in the territory. The USVI attorney general’s 2020 lawsuit alleged that Epstein fraudulently obtained EDC benefits for entities used in his trafficking operation.
The Jeffrey VI Foundation and connected entities eventually became part of the million settlement between Epstein’s estate and the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2023.
