Following his June 2008 guilty plea to two state felony charges, Jeffrey Epstein began serving his sentence at the Palm Beach County Stockade. An arrangement was made allowing him to leave the facility for up to 12 hours per day for work purposes, effectively commuting to his Palm Beach office.
The work release arrangement was later found by an internal Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office investigation to violate standard policy. Multiple PBSO employees were disciplined. Critics argued the arrangement was so extraordinary that it reflected preferential treatment rather than individual officer error.
Epstein served 13 months of his 18-month sentence before release. The leniency of his incarceration remained a major grievance for victims and the Palm Beach Police officers who had spent years building the original case.
