2009: Epstein Registers as Sex Offender in US Virgin Islands
Following his release from Palm Beach County jail, Jeffrey Epstein is required to register as a sex offender in the US Virgin Islands, where he was a resident through his companies and Little Saint James island.

After serving approximately 13 months of his 18-month sentence (with work release), Jeffrey Epstein was released from Palm Beach County jail in 2009. As part of his plea agreement, he was required to register as a sex offender.
Epstein registered in Florida and also registered in the US Virgin Islands, where he was a legal resident and property owner through his corporate entities. His USVI registration placed him on the territory’s sex offender registry.
The USVI registration would later become significant when the USVI government sued the Epstein estate, arguing that authorities in the territory had the information needed to investigate him but failed to do so adequately despite his registered sex offender status. His registration in the USVI created ongoing reporting and compliance requirements that evidence suggests were not consistently enforced.
