JPMorgan Chase formally ends its banking relationship with Jeffrey Epstein after years of documented internal warnings that his accounts raised serious concerns.

In approximately 2013, JPMorgan Chase formally ended its banking relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Internal emails later produced in civil litigation showed that JPMorgan employees had raised red flags about Epstein’s account activity repeatedly over the preceding yearswarnings that were overridden or dismissed by senior executives.

The bank’s decision to maintain the relationship despite internally documented concerns became the basis of a civil lawsuit brought by Epstein’s victims. In 2023, JPMorgan agreed to a million settlement with the U.S. Virgin Islands and a separate million settlement with victimsamong the largest bank settlements in a sex trafficking case.

Jes Staley, a senior JPMorgan executive who had a documented personal relationship with Epstein, left the bank in 2013. His communications with Epstein became a focus of the litigation.
