Federal Bail Hearing for Jeffrey Epstein July 15, 2019

The federal bail hearing on July 15, 2019, before Judge Berman was one of the most widely covered legal proceedings of the year. Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo presented an elaborate bail package on Epstein’s behalf; Assistant U.S. Attorneys presented evidence of his flight risk, including the foreign passport found in his townhouse safe.

The hearing included victim representatives, with Courtney Wild addressing the court. The government’s bail argument drew on the hidden passport, Epstein’s resources, and the severity of the charges to argue that no bail package would be sufficient.

Prosecution also argued that the 2008 NPA did not preclude the federal charges because the case addressed New York conduct not covered by the Florida agreement.
