On January 22, 2024, the second major tranche of documents from the sealed civil case Virginia Giuffre v. Ghislaine Maxwell was released under orders from U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska. The documents included additional depositions of associates, correspondence between Epstein and Maxwell, and supplementary flight records.
The January 2024 release followed an initial unsealing in January 2023 and preceded further releases throughout 2024. Together, these documents provided the most detailed public record available of Epstein’s network, his associates’ knowledge, and the mechanics of how trafficking activities were allegedly organized and concealed.
The unsealing process, which Judge Preska oversaw after earlier courts had maintained seals for years, was cited by victim advocates as a model for judicial transparency in trafficking cases involving wealthy and well-connected defendants.
