In 2024, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit issued its ruling on Ghislaine Maxwell’s appeal of her December 2021 conviction on sex trafficking conspiracy and related charges. The Second Circuit denied the appeal, affirming both the conviction and the 20-year sentence imposed by Judge Alison Nathan in June 2022.
Maxwell’s appeal had argued that a juror’s non-disclosure of prior sexual abuse in voir dire, and the trial court’s refusal to give certain jury instructions, warranted a new trial. The Second Circuit found that neither argument provided sufficient grounds to overturn the verdict.
Maxwell continues to serve her sentence at Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee. Her legal team has indicated they may seek Supreme Court review. She is projected to serve approximately 17 years accounting for good behavior.
