What Is the “Client List”?
The term “Epstein client list” broadly refers to the names of individuals mentioned in civil litigation documents — primarily the Giuffre v. Maxwell case — as having had contact with Epstein’s trafficking operation in some capacity.
It is important to clarify: the documents released are not a single “list,” but rather references to names throughout depositions, court filings, and exhibits filed over years of litigation.
The January 2024 Unsealing
On January 3, 2024, U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska ordered the unsealing of approximately 943 pages of documents from the Giuffre v. Maxwell civil suit. The release included depositions that named over 190 individuals.
Who Was Named?
The documents referenced (among many others):
- Bill Clinton — Mentioned in the context of Epstein’s social network
- Prince Andrew — Named in Giuffre’s deposition
- Bill Richardson — Alleged by Giuffre in a 2015 deposition
- George Mitchell — Named by Giuffre, denied by his office
- Alan Dershowitz — Named; later partially cleared via deposition amendment
- Stephen Hawking — Referenced in the context of visiting the private island for scientific events
- Various unnamed “John Does” — Some remain sealed
What “Named” Actually Means
Being named in these documents can mean very different things:
- A person who abused victims as alleged by Giuffre or other witnesses
- A person who was present at events but not alleged to have committed abuse
- A person whose name appears in a social or professional context
- A person mentioned without accusation as part of Epstein’s network
The documents released are civil litigation records. They are not criminal findings. Presence in the documents does not establish guilt.
What Remains Sealed
As of 2026, some “John Doe” identities remain under court seal pending final resolution of ongoing legal motions. These are proceedings that could result in additional names being released.
Where to Find the Documents
The unsealed documents are available through PACER (federal court records system) under the case Giuffre v. Maxwell, Case No. 15-cv-07433 (S.D.N.Y.).
