Birth and Family
Jeffrey Edward Epstein was born January 20, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York. His father Seymour Epstein was a Parks Department groundskeeper. His mother Pauline (née Stolofsky) was a school aide. His younger brother is Mark Epstein.
The Coney Island Childhood
Epstein grew up in the Sea Gate neighborhood of Coney Island a gated community in Brooklyn that was working class but had a specific close-knit feel. The neighborhood was insulated from the rest of Brooklyn.
Academic Gifts
Epstein showed apparent mathematical gifts from a young age. He was identified as academically accelerated and was placed in advanced programs.
The University Path
Epstein attended the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art a prestigious tuition-free New York institution known for engineering and science. He also took courses at New York University. He left without completing a degree.
The Dalton Connection
Without completing college, Epstein somehow obtained an interview at The Dalton School and was hired based on apparent mathematical ability and recommendation. This first major upward step set the trajectory of his life.
