Why they were not re-prosecuted after 2019: The 2019 SDNY prosecution focused on Epstein directly. The NPA immunized the named women from federal prosecution for the described conduct, and the SDNY’s case did not charge them. Maxwell was separately indicted in 2020; however, she was charged in a different district (also SDNY) whose prosecutors concluded the New York NPA did not cover Maxwell’s conduct.
