Where is Ghislaine Maxwell now and when does she get out of prison?

Maxwell’s Conviction and Sentence

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted on December 29, 2021, and sentenced on June 28, 2022, to 20 years in federal prison plus 5 years of supervised release. She was convicted on 5 of 6 federal counts, including sex trafficking of a minor.

Current Location

Maxwell is incarcerated at FCI Tallahassee, a low-security federal correctional institution in Tallahassee, Florida.

Projected Release Date

With standard federal good-time credits (15% reduction for good behavior), Maxwell’s earliest projected release date is approximately 2037, when she would be in her mid-70s. She received credit for time served.

Maxwell’s Appeals

Maxwell has pursued several avenues of appeal:

5th Amendment Challenge

Maxwell argued that prosecutors used information from her civil depositions in the Giuffre case, which she gave under an immunity agreement. The appeals court rejected this argument.

Double Jeopardy Claim

She argued that one of the charges violated double jeopardy principles. This was also rejected.

Juror Misconduct

Maxwell sought a new trial after a juror disclosed being a sexual abuse victim — relevant given defense arguments about victim psychology. The court ruled the juror’s failure to disclose was not sufficient grounds for a new trial.

Appeal Status (2025–2026)

As of 2026, Maxwell has continued to pursue appeals at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. All major appeal attempts have so far been unsuccessful. The Supreme Court has not accepted her petition for certiorari.

Cooperation Possibility?

Maxwell has been widely speculated to possess information about Epstein’s clients that she has not shared with prosecutors. There have been no public reports that she has entered into a cooperation agreement. Prosecutors have stated they continue to investigate.

Conditions of Confinement

Maxwell initially raised concerns about her conditions in Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn, while awaiting trial. At FCI Tallahassee she is in a standard low-security facility.
