Florida campuses were particularly targeted. Palm Beach Police investigation records identified Florida State University and other Florida institutions as locations where recruiters operated. The economic vulnerability of college students — who often needed supplemental income — made them susceptible to offers that promised relatively high pay for work framed as legitimate.
Epstein’s financial connections to universities also gave him indirect access. His donations purchased him social legitimacy and opportunities to attend campus events, where faculty contacts could introduce him to students in settings that reduced wariness. Harvard’s own internal report specifically noted instances where Epstein had been introduced to students through faculty intermediaries.
The campus dimension of the operation illustrated how Epstein exploited the openness of academic institutions — the same characteristics that made universities intellectually productive also made them vulnerable to well-resourced predators with donor status.
