Why This Age Range?
Investigators and psychologists noted Epstein specifically targeted girls in early-to-mid adolescence because:
- They were easier to manipulate through “grooming”
- They were less likely to report abuse
- They could be recruited through peer networks
- They were financially vulnerable
The targeting of minors led to federal sex trafficking of minors charges in 2019, which carry higher mandatory sentences than adult trafficking offenses.
