Julie K. Brown, an investigative reporter at the Miami Herald, published a landmark three-part investigative series titled “Perversion of Justice” in November 2018. Her reporting directly preceded and arguably precipitated the 2019 federal prosecution.
What she found: Brown spent approximately a year and a half investigating the case. She located and interviewed dozens of Epstein victims who had never previously spoken publicly — women who had experienced abuse as teenagers and had largely been ignored or silenced in 2007–2008. She documented the 2008 non-prosecution agreement in detail, showed how victims were excluded from its negotiation, and provided the most comprehensive account to date of the breadth of Epstein’s abuse.
