Testimony and documents showed that Maxwell played an active, central role in recruiting young girls — not merely a passive bystander. She would approach girls at malls, bus stops, and through social networks.
Victim Testimony (Under Pseudonyms)
Four women testified under pseudonyms:
- “Jane” — Testified she was 14 when she met Epstein, recruited through Maxwell. Abuse began shortly after and continued for years.
- “Carolyn” — Testified she was recruited at age 14 and sexually abused at Palm Beach.
- “Kate” — Testified Maxwell introduced her to Epstein at age 17 in London.
- Annie Farmer — One of only two victims who testified using her real name. She testified about being abused at Zorro Ranch at age 16.
The Role of Maxwell
The prosecution established that Maxwell:
- Recruited victims herself
- “Groomed” victims by normalizing sexual contact with older men
- Participated in sexual abuse
- Lied in depositions to protect Epstein’s secrets
What Was NOT Revealed
- The identities of Epstein’s other clients who abused minors
- A full account of everyone in the trafficking network
- Who else may have participated but avoided prosecution
The Question of Co-Conspirators
In the indictment, prosecutors referenced “other individuals” who abused the trafficked victims. These individuals were not named publicly and have not (as of 2026) been charged. This remains the central unanswered question of the case: who were Epstein and Maxwell’s clients?
Sentencing
Maxwell was sentenced on June 28, 2022, to 20 years in federal prison (plus 5 years supervised release). She is incarcerated at FCI Tallahassee.
