What charges was Ghislaine Maxwell convicted of?

On December 29, 2021, a federal jury in Manhattan convicted Ghislaine Maxwell on five of the six counts she faced. She was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison in June 2022.

The Counts:

1. Sex trafficking of a minor (Count 6) — Guilty. The most serious charge, carrying a 10-year maximum sentence per count.
2. Conspiracy to entice minors to travel for illegal sexual activity (Count 1) — Guilty.
3. Enticement of a minor to travel for illegal sexual activity (Count 2) — Guilty.
4. Conspiracy to transport minors for criminal sexual activity (Count 3) — Guilty.
5. Transportation of a minor for criminal sexual activity (Count 4) — Guilty.
6. Perjury (Count 5, related to her 2016 civil deposition) — Not guilty on this charge alone.

Evidence: The conviction rested heavily on the testimony of four women who described being recruited as teenagers between 1994 and 2004. Their code names were “Jane,” “Kate,” “Carolyn,” and “Annie Farmer” (the only publicly named victim at trial). Prosecutors presented flight logs, financial records, and physical evidence from Epstein’s properties.

Sentencing: U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan sentenced Maxwell to 20 years in prison in June 2022. Maxwell is currently incarcerated at FCI Tallahassee in Florida. Her appeal of the conviction has been pending before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
