What was Great St. James Island's role in the Epstein case?

The Second Island

Jeffrey Epstein purchased Great St. James Island a larger island adjacent to St. Thomas in addition to his original Little St. James Island. Great St. James is approximately 165 acres.

The Development

Epstein began extensive construction on Great St. James, including building facilities that USVI government authorities later sought to inspect and examine as part of investigations.

USVI Regulatory Issues

Epstein’s development of Great St. James proceeded without full compliance with USVI environmental and construction regulations. USVI authorities issued violations, which Epstein’s representatives contested.

The Lawsuit

The USVI Attorney General’s lawsuit against the Epstein estate covered both Little St. James and Great St. James, alleging both were used to further trafficking operations.

The Sale

Both islands were sold through the estate administration process. The buyers undertook environmental assessment and remediation planning given the history of the properties.
