The Conviction
Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted on December 29, 2021, at the Southern District of New York on five of six federal counts. She was sentenced on June 28, 2022 to 20 years in federal prison plus 3 years of supervised release and a ,000 fine.
Grounds for Appeal
Maxwell’s legal team appealed on several grounds including:
- Claims that multiple jurors were biased due to personal experiences with sexual abuse
- Allegations that a juror failed to disclose prior victimization during jury selection
- Arguments that the charges were improper under the statutes as written
Second Circuit Ruling (2024)
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit denied Maxwell’s appeal in November 2024. The court considered and rejected her primary arguments, affirming the conviction and sentence.
Current Incarceration
Maxwell is incarcerated at FCI Tallahassee in Florida, a minimum-security women’s federal facility. She will be eligible for good-time credit under federal sentencing guidelines, which could reduce her effective time served.
