As of 2025, Ghislaine Maxwell remains incarcerated and her appeal of her federal conviction has been denied.
The conviction: Maxwell was convicted on December 29, 2021, on five of six federal counts related to sex trafficking and enticement of minors. She was sentenced on June 28, 2022, to 20 years in federal prison plus a $750,000 fine.
The appeal: Maxwell’s legal team filed an appeal with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, raising multiple grounds including:
- Claims of juror misconduct (a juror had disclosed during post-trial interviews that he discussed his own sexual abuse history during deliberations without having disclosed it during jury selection)
- Arguments about the statute of limitations for certain counts
- Arguments about jury instructions and evidentiary rulings
The Second Circuit ruling: The Second Circuit rejected Maxwell’s appeal, upholding the conviction. The court found that the alleged juror misconduct did not rise to the level requiring a new trial.
Supreme Court petition: Maxwell’s attorneys indicated they would consider petitioning the Supreme Court, but as of 2025 the conviction stands.
Current status: Maxwell is held at FCI Tallahassee in Florida. With federal good behavior credit (roughly 15% reduction), her projected release date is approximately 2037, when she would be about 76 years old.
