Great Saint James Island, a 165-acre island in the U.S. Virgin Islands purchased by Jeffrey Epstein in 2016 for approximately .5 million, was part of the Epstein estate administered after his death.
Location and Status: Great Saint James is located near Little Saint James (Epstein’s primary private island) and near St. Thomas, USVI. The two islands together formed Epstein’s USVI domain.
Post-Death: After Epstein’s death, Great Saint James was included in the estate and subject to the various legal proceedings and claims against the estate. As part of the settlement between the Epstein estate and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the estate was required to sell its island properties with proceeds directed toward victim compensation.
USVI Settlement: The November 2022 settlement between the Epstein estate and USVI for million included provisions requiring the sale of the island properties, with Great Saint James included.
The island had been less developed than Little Saint James but its purchase was seen as Epstein’s effort to expand his USVI territorial control and potentially block future development near his properties.
