Carolyn’s Identity
At trial, the survivor testified under the name ‘Carolyn.’ She was from the Palm Beach area and was recruited into the trafficking operation approximately 2002-2004 when she was 14-16 years old.
The Recruitment
Carolyn testified she was recruited by a peer who was already participating in the massage arrangement an example of the peer recruitment dynamic that prosecutors documented at the Palm Beach estate.
What She Testified
Carolyn described visiting the Palm Beach estate for massage sessions. She testified that Ghislaine Maxwell was present at some visits, that Maxwell touched her inappropriately on at least one occasion, and that Maxwell was aware of the sexual nature of sessions with Epstein.
The Trafficking Counts
Carolyn’s testimony was particularly central to the sex trafficking and sex trafficking conspiracy counts because her age (under 18) and the payment she received (- per session) satisfied the statutory elements.
Post-Trial
Following the verdict, Carolyn gave a victim impact statement at sentencing and has since spoken publicly (though with some privacy maintained) about the case.
