Robert Maxwell: Overview
Ian Robert Maxwell (born Jan Ludvík Hyman Binyamin Hoch, 1923) was a Czechoslovak-born Holocaust survivor who became a British media magnate. He built an empire that included the Mirror Group Newspapers and publishing house Pergamon Press.
His Death
Robert Maxwell died on November 5, 1991, falling from his yacht, the Lady Ghislaine, near the Canary Islands. His death was ruled accidental drowning, though murder and suicide theories persist.
The Financial Scandal
After his death, it emerged that Maxwell had embezzled approximately 400 million from the Mirror Group pension fund, leaving thousands of former employees impoverished. The scandal significantly damaged the family name.
Intelligence Allegations
Multiple books and reports have alleged Robert Maxwell was an intelligence asset of Israeli intelligence (Mossad). Former Mossad officer Victor Ostrovsky made such claims. These allegations have created the Ghislaine-Mossad theory.
