Jennifer Araoz: Overview
Jennifer Araoz is one of Epstein’s most publicly known victims, notable for publicly identifying herself and filing a civil lawsuit against the Epstein estate the same week of his 2019 federal arrest.
Recruitment
Araoz was 14 years old when a young womanacting as a recruiterapproached her near her performing arts high school in Midtown Manhattan around 2001. The recruiter befriended her and eventually introduced her to Epstein at his East 71st Street townhouse.
The Abuse
According to Araoz’s account, starting when she was approximately 15, Epstein paid her for “massages” that escalated to sexual assault. She says the abuse culminated in rape when she was 15. She stopped going to his townhouse after the rape.
Going Public
Araoz was one of the first victims to publicly name herself and give a detailed account on camera following Epstein’s 2019 arrest. She gave an interview to NBC News within days of his arrest.
Lawsuit
Araoz filed a civil lawsuit in New York in 2019, enabled by the New York Child Victims Act (which opened a one-year window for expired statute of limitations claims). She sued the Epstein estate, Maxwell, and named employees she alleged enabled access. The estate ultimately settled with her as part of the Victims’ Compensation Program.
Significance
Araoz’s accountreaching back nearly two decadesillustrated the systematic nature of Epstein’s recruitment near schools and the long-timeline pattern of his abuse.
