Question
Who was Jean-Luc Brunel and what was his connection to Epstein?
Answer
Jean-Luc Brunel was a French modeling industry scout with decades of experience who became a key figure in Jeffrey Epstein’s international recruitment network.
Background: Born in France, Brunel built his career as a fashion industry figure with extensive connections to the modeling world in Europe and the United States. Prior to his association with Epstein, allegations of misconduct by Brunel in the modeling industry dated back decades — including a 1988 “60 Minutes” segment that raised concerns about his behavior.
MC2 Model Management: Epstein provided financial backing for MC2 Model Management, which Brunel helped operate in Miami and New York. The agency functioned as a cover that gave Brunel access to young women under the pretense of legitimate modeling opportunities.
Multiple victims have alleged that Brunel recruited them — often from Eastern Europe, South America, or economically vulnerable communities — with promises of modeling careers, then trafficked them to Epstein.
Virginia Giuffre’s allegations: Virginia Giuffre alleged in court filings that Brunel was one of the key figures who connected Epstein with victims, and that he directly participated in or facilitated abuse.
Arrest and death: Brunel was arrested by French authorities in December 2020 in connection with a French judicial investigation into Epstein’s network. He was held in pretrial detention at La Santé prison in Paris.
In February 2022, Brunel was found dead in his prison cell. French authorities ruled the death a suicide. As with Epstein’s death, Brunel’s death in custody before trial generated controversy and questions from victims’ advocates.
