Bobbi Sternheim

Background

Bobbi Sternheim is a New York-based criminal defense attorney with experience in federal court proceedings. She was part of the legal team assembled by Ghislaine Maxwell for her 2021 criminal trial in the Southern District of New York.

Role at Trial

Sternheim served as one of Maxwell’s lead attorneys throughout the trial, which began in November 2021. She conducted cross-examinations of government witnesses, made evidentiary objections, and argued strategic motions on behalf of the defense.

The defense strategy included challenging the reliability of witness memory, emphasizing the lack of physical corroborating evidence, and arguing that Maxwell was being scapegoated in place of Epstein who was no longer available for prosecution. Sternheim was part of the team that developed and executed this strategy.

After Trial

Following the December 29, 2021 guilty verdict, Sternheim remained part of Maxwell’s legal team for post-trial motions and later the sentencing proceedings. The defense fought motions for a new trial based on the juror controversy. Maxwell received a 20-year sentence in June 2022.

Sternheim was part of Maxwell’s legal representation as the case proceeded through various stages including the appeal to the Second Circuit.
