Kate Brown

Background

Kate Brown was one of the four survivors who testified under pseudonymous protection at the 2021 Ghislaine Maxwell federal trial. She later allowed her name to be publicly associated with her testimony.

Trial Testimony

Brown testified about being introduced to Jeffrey Epstein as a teenager through social connections in New York. She described being flown on Epstein’s aircraft to his properties and experiencing abuse. Her testimony described the gradual escalation of inappropriate contact and the role Maxwell played in facilitating the encounters and normalizing the situation.

Brown’s testimony, along with that of the three other Jane Does, was central to the government’s case that Maxwell had knowingly facilitated and participated in a pattern of sexual abuse of minors over years.

Impact

Brown’s testimony and the testimonies of the other Jane Doe witnesses were found credible by the jury, which convicted Maxwell on five of six counts on December 29, 2021.

Her testimony contributed to the historical record of how Epstein and Maxwell operated and the mechanisms through which young women and girls were recruited, groomed, and abused.
