Lara Pomerantz

Background

Lara Pomerantz served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York. She was part of the prosecution team that handled the Epstein case after his 2019 arrest and subsequently the Ghislaine Maxwell prosecution.

Role in the Cases

Pomerantz was among the prosecutors who developed and tried the Maxwell case. The SDNY prosecution team worked through multiple superseding indictments and significant pre-trial litigation before successfully trying Maxwell in late 2021.

At the Maxwell trial, Pomerantz was part of the trial team that presented the government’s case to the jury over approximately three weeks in November-December 2021. The prosecution’s case relied on physical evidence, flight records, financial records, staff testimony, and the four Jane Doe witnesses.

Context

The SDNY Maxwell prosecution represented a significant institutional achievement in the Epstein accountability story building and successfully trying a case against a co-conspirator after the principal defendant had died in custody. Pomerantz and her co-prosecutors were central to that achievement.
