Overview

The question of accountability for Epstein’s associates became a central issue in the public reckoning after his 2019 arrest and death. Despite years of documented evidence, only a few individuals have faced criminal consequences. The 2008 NPA granted immunity to named and unnamed co-conspirators, shielding several from prosecution.

Maxwell Convicted 2021

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted December 29, 2021 in the Southern District of New York on five of six counts, including sex trafficking of a minor. She was sentenced in June 2022 to 20 years in federal prison. She is serving her sentence at FCI Tallahassee. Her appeal was denied in 2024.

Groff Guilty Plea 2022

Lesley Groff pleaded guilty in 2022 to one count of facilitating sex trafficking. She received a sentence of time served plus supervised release, reflecting her cooperation. She was one of the four individuals named as potential co-conspirators in the 2008 non-prosecution agreement.

Kellen Immunity, No Charges

Sarah Kellen received immunity under the 2008 NPA and has never been charged with any crime. Victims and prosecutors have described her role as central to the operation. She is not subject to prosecution for pre-2007 conduct.

Marcinkova Immunity, No Charges

Nadia Marcinkova similarly received immunity in 2008. Despite victim accounts of direct participation in abuse, she has not been charged. She became a licensed commercial pilot and operates a flight school in California.

Ross Immunity, No Charges

Adriana Ross received immunity in 2008. During depositions in civil cases, she repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment even on immunity-covered mattersbehavior that courts found puzzling.

Brunel Died Before Trial

Jean-Luc Brunel was arrested in France in December 2020. He was charged with rape of minors and related offenses. He was found dead in his cell at Santé Prison, Paris, in February 2022. His death was ruled a suicide.

Unindicted Co-Conspirators

The 2008 NPA referenced unnamed co-conspirators who were not charged. Victims’ advocates and legal commentators have argued this provision improperly shielded powerful individuals who enabled or benefited from Epstein’s network.
