JPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bank together paid over million in settlements related to their roles in facilitating Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking operation through their banking services.

Overview

Two major international banksJPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bankpaid a combined total exceeding ** million** in civil settlements related to their maintenance of banking relationships with Jeffrey Epstein, which plaintiffs alleged facilitated his sex trafficking operation. These settlements represented the largest financial accountability outside the Epstein estate itself.

JPMorgan Chase: Million Total

USVI Settlement Million (June 2023) The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) filed suit against JPMorgan in federal court, arguing the bank’s maintenance of Epstein’s accounts enabled him to operate his trafficking enterprise out of the USVI. The USVI alleged JPMorgan processed hundreds of suspicious cash withdrawals and wire transfers while ignoring red flags.

JPMorgan settled for million in June 2023. As part of the settlement, JPMorgan cooperated with the government and agreed to implement enhanced anti-trafficking policies.

Victim Class Settlement Million (June 2023) Separately, JPMorgan settled with a class of Epstein victims for million. This settlement provided direct compensation to women who were trafficked using infrastructure the bank maintained.

Internal Accountability JPMorgan also brought claims against Jes Staley, a former executive who had been Epstein’s primary relationship manager at the bank (and later became CEO of Barclays). The bank alleged Staley concealed Epstein’s criminal conduct.

Deutsche Bank: Million

Deutsche Bank accepted Epstein as a client in 2013after JPMorgan had exited the relationship and during a period when Epstein was a registered sex offender. The New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) filed suit alleging Deutsche Bank maintained accounts used to process payments to Epstein’s trafficking network.

Deutsche Bank settled with the DFS for million in July 2020. The settlement required the bank to acknowledge failures in its compliance processes and implement remedial measures.
