Jeffrey Epstein’s victim recruitment was not random — it followed identifiable patterns and targeted specific environments. Among these, university campuses and adjacent communities provided a steady supply of young women who were often away from family, financially stretched, and susceptible to promises of financial opportunity or career advancement.
Florida Campus Connections
The Palm Beach investigation revealed that the majority of Florida-recruited victims were drawn from the area’s extended young adult population, which included students at the University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and community colleges in the Boca Raton to Palm Beach corridor.
The recruitment chain worked through social networks radiating outward from Epstein’s Palm Beach estate. A young woman would be paid to recruit a friend; that friend would be paid to recruit someone else. Over time, the network reached into campus social environments through students who had been recruited.
The Modeling Promise
A central recruitment tool across multiple environments was the offer of modeling opportunities. Epstein’s connection to Victoria’s Secret through Les Wexner, and Jean-Luc Brunel’s connection to modeling agencies in New York and Europe, gave the offer superficial credibility. Young women who aspired to modeling careers were told Epstein could make introductions.
Science Conference Recruitment
At a different social register, Epstein used invitations to elite science gatherings and intellectual events as a recruitment mechanism for young women of academic background. Invitations to meet Nobel laureates or participate in discussions with important scientists appealed to a different demographic entirely.
Eastern European Students
Jean-Luc Brunel’s operations in Eastern Europe targeted modeling agencies and associated social environments in countries including Poland, the Czech Republic, and others. Young women were recruited with promises of modeling work in New York, brought to the United States, and trafficked to Epstein and associates. Some were housed in properties Epstein controlled.
Why Campuses
University campuses concentrated young women who were:
- Away from family for the first time
- Financially strained
- Ambitious and aspirational
- Less likely to have established social networks watching out for them
- Potentially unfamiliar with what a targeting predator looks like in a high-status social environment
