Scientists’ Reactions
The reactions of scientists who heard the plan were varied:
- Some described it as a “weird” or “delusional” fantasy that they did not take seriously
- Others expressed discomfort
- Crucially, none appear to have reported it as a potential warning sign to authorities or institutions
The failure to report this — combined with the broader failure to report concerns about Epstein’s conduct — is part of the institutional failure narrative.
The Neo-Eugenics Context
Epstein was deeply interested in genetics and what some scholars call “neo-eugenics”:
