Little Saint James Visitors: Who Was Documented as Being There
Little Saint James Island was Jeffrey Epstein’s primary private residence in the U.S. Virgin Islands and a central location in his trafficking operation. Documenting who visited the island is difficult: access was typically by Epstein’s private helicopters or boats, flight logs to the island are incomplete, and many visitors have denied or minimized their presence.
Documentary Sources
Flight logs: Logs from Epstein’s aircraft — particularly the Boeing 727 known colloquially as the “Lolita Express” and smaller planes — document some travel to the island. However, these logs document travel to nearby St. Thomas airport (STT) or to Epstein’s private airstrip, not specifically to Little Saint James itself. A visitor to St. Thomas might or might not have proceeded to the island.
Victim testimony: Multiple victims testified in civil depositions, at the Maxwell trial, and in victim statements that specific individuals were present on the island during abuse. This testimony is direct but identifies specific dates and individuals; it does not provide comprehensive visitor documentation.
The Giuffre v. Maxwell civil case (2014–2024): Records from this case, including depositions of Epstein-connected individuals, are the richest source of island visitor information. The January 2024 unsealing released numerous such depositions.
The 2024 Document Release: Approximately 900 documents unsealed by Judge Loretta Preska in the Giuffre v. Maxwell case included depositions, emails, and other records naming numerous individuals. Some documents confirmed island visits; others concerned Epstein’s network more broadly.
Confirmed or Documented Visitors
The following individuals have been confirmed or credibly documented as being at Little Saint James based on one or more of the above sources:
Frequently documented:
- Jeffrey Epstein (owner/regular resident)
- Ghislaine Maxwell (regular co-resident/operator)
- Virginia Giuffre, Annie Farmer, and other named victims
High-profile visitors with documented or credible basis:
- Prince Andrew: Virginia Giuffre testified he was present on the island and that abuse occurred there
- Bill Clinton: Flight logs document Clinton traveled to the U.S. Virgin Islands generally; his office has confirmed two visits to Little Saint James (for charitable events related to the Clinton Foundation’s activities in the USVI), though Clinton denied any knowledge of trafficking
- Stephen Hawking: Photographs of Hawking on the island at an academic conference hosted there circa 2006 have been confirmed
- Lawrence Krauss: The physicist has acknowledged attending gatherings on the island
Individuals whose presence near the island is documented but whose specific island visits are contested or denied:
- Various persons named in Epstein’s “black book” who acknowledge knowing Epstein but deny island visits
What Documentation Does and Does Not Prove
Being documented as visiting Little Saint James proves presence on the island. It does not, by itself, prove knowledge of or participation in any criminal activity. Epstein also held academic conferences, dinner gatherings, and social events at the island that were unrelated to trafficking.
The significance of island visits is therefore contextual: victims who describe specific abuse incidents naming specific visitors on specific dates provide much stronger evidence than flight log entries showing travel to the vicinity.
The Unknown Visitors
The significant limitation of all available documentation is that it reflects the fraction of visitors whose presence was recorded in sources that subsequently became available. An unknown number of visitors were brought to the island by boat, traveled on private aircraft not captured in available logs, or visited without being named in any available documentary source. The full visitor population — particularly from the island’s most active period, roughly 1996–2008 — will likely never be established.
