Scott Borgerson is an American entrepreneur and maritime policy expert who was romantically linked to Ghislaine Maxwell in the years following her public association with Epstein. He reportedly owned or held interest in the Bradford, New Hampshire property where Maxwell was arrested by the FBI in July 2020.
Background
Borgerson founded CargoMetrics, a company using shipping data for investment analytics. He was previously a U.S. Coast Guard officer and researcher with the Council on Foreign Relations focused on maritime policy, including Arctic shipping routes.
He was linked romantically to Maxwell in various media reports beginning around 2016. Associates and acquaintances described them as a couple, though Maxwell’s public profile had dropped significantly following the escalation of scrutiny over her association with Epstein.
The New Hampshire Property
The Bradford, New Hampshire property from which Maxwell was arrested was reportedly associated with Borgerson. The property was described as secluded — consistent with Maxwell’s apparent effort to maintain a low profile during the period after Epstein’s death and before her arrest.
Maxwell had reportedly been living under varying degrees of obscurity for roughly a year between Epstein’s August 2019 death and her July 2020 arrest. The New Hampshire property was not widely known to be connected to her.
FBI Arrest
On July 2, 2020, FBI agents arrested Maxwell at the Bradford property. She was charged at that time with six federal counts related to her facilitation of Epstein’s trafficking network.
Borgerson was not charged with any crime relating to Maxwell’s activities. Harboring a fugitive requires knowledge that the person is wanted — whether prosecutors concluded that was not present, or made a determination not to pursue such charges, was not publicly announced.
Post-Arrest
Borgerson’s subsequent statements to media indicated he had distanced himself from Maxwell. Reports suggested the couple had separated before her arrest. He has not been implicated in Epstein’s trafficking operation or Maxwell’s offenses.
