The Timeline of Failures
- July 23: Epstein found semi-conscious, placed on suicide watch
- July 29: Removed from suicide watch after only 6 days — against standard protocol
- Early August: Cellmate transferred away, leaving Epstein alone
- Night of Aug 9-10: Guards required to check every 30 minutes allegedly slept instead; logs were falsified
- ~6:30 AM Aug 10: Epstein found unresponsive
The Camera Problem
MCC officials reported that cameras outside Epstein’s cell malfunctioned and did not capture usable footage from the relevant overnight period. These failures were never independently audited.
OIG Findings
The DOJ Inspector General’s 2023 report found systemic staffing shortages at MCC, documentation failures in suicide watch procedures, and chronic camera maintenance problems — but no evidence of third-party intervention.
