MC2 model Management was a modeling agency co-founded with Epstein’s financial backing and operated by Jean-Luc Brunel as the key instrument through which Epstein could recruit young women — including minors — under the cover of a legitimate modeling industry business.
The Agency Structure
MC2 operated primarily out of Miami and had operations in New York and Paris. Brunel, a French modeling scout with decades of industry connections, used his reputation in the fashion industry to access young women and families who believed their daughters were being offered legitimate modeling careers.
Epstein reportedly provided significant funding to MC2, giving him both a financial interest in the agency and access to its talent roster. The financial relationship ensured Brunel’s ongoing cooperation and gave Epstein a mechanism to identify, evaluate, and access potential victims.
Recruitment Methodology
The modeling agency framework was effective as a cover because:
- It offered a plausible explanation for why wealthy men would be interested in meeting young women
- It provided financial incentives to aspirant models and their families
- It created travel justifications that allowed movement of young women across borders
- It gave Epstein and Brunel plausible deniability about the purpose of introductions
Scope of Alleged Abuse
Numerous women have alleged that Brunel used MC2 and other modeling agencies earlier in his career as instruments of abuse. Similar allegations stretching back decades before Epstein’s 2005 investigation established a long pattern.
Charges and Death
Jean-Luc Brunel was arrested in France in December 2020 and charged with rape and sexual assault. He died in custody at the La Santé prison in Paris in February 2022 under circumstances that, like Epstein’s death, were ruled suicide but generated controversy and questions.
Legacy
The MC2 case established the modeling industry as a vulnerable sector to systematic exploitation and contributed to subsequent industry reform discussions about oversight of scouts and agency operations.
