Epstein and the Modeling Agency Recruitment Pipeline — MC2 and Related Agencies

Jeffrey Epstein funded and co-controlled modeling agencies including MC2 Model Management that Jean-Luc Brunel operated, which functioned as recruitment pipelines for trafficking victims. Young women hoping for legitimate modeling careers were funneled through these agencies into Epstein's orbit. The modeling agency cover was among the most sophisticated pretexts in the operation.

The Modeling Industry as a Recruitment Universe

The professional modeling industry provided Jeffrey Epstein with several advantageous recruitment characteristics:

  1. Young women aged 14-20 were the target demographic of legitimate modeling agencies
  2. Foreign travel was normal — models regularly flew internationally for work
  3. Financial dependence was common — young models often needed financial support from bookers/agents
  4. Authority figures expected — models accepted direction from agents, clients, and industry figures
  5. Dreams of success — high aspiration made young women more susceptible to exploitation

Jean-Luc Brunel and MC2

Jean-Luc Brunel was a French modeling agent with a long — and controversial — career:

  • Had faced allegations of sexual misconduct in the modeling industry since the 1980s
  • Was the subject of a 1988 CBS News “60 Minutes” investigation into model exploitation
  • Despite this history, remained active in the industry

Epstein invested approximately $1 million in Brunel’s American modeling agency MC2 Model Management:

  • MC2 had offices in Miami, New York, and Paris
  • Represented legitimate models in legitimate bookings
  • But also served as a cover for funneling young women to Epstein

The Mechanism

The MC2-Epstein pipeline operated approximately like this:

  1. Brunel or MC2 agents would identify and recruit young women internationally
  2. Aspiring models were brought to the US (visa issues in some cases)
  3. Models were introduced to Epstein as a wealthy benefactor who could help their careers
  4. Some were directed into massage or sexual service

The modeling context meant young women often didn’t recognize they were being trafficked — they believed they were in a rough industry environment.

Eastern European Pipeline

MC2 and related agencies had particular activity in:

  • Eastern Europe (Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Ukraine)
  • South America (Brazil, Colombia)
  • France

Women recruited in these regions faced particular vulnerability — far from home, with language barriers and immigration status complications.

SDFL’s 2008 Coverage

The 2008 NPA’s immunity for unnamed co-conspirators was broad enough to arguably cover Brunel and the MC2 entity from prosecution related to the SDFL case.

Brunel Charged in France

After Epstein’s death, French prosecutors moved against Brunel:

  • Arrested at Charles de Gaulle in December 2020
  • Charged with rape and trafficking
  • Died in La Santé prison in February 2022 before trial
