His most significant documented relationships included: Leslie Wexner (the financial foundation), Ghislaine Maxwell (the social engine), Bill Clinton (Democratic political access), Donald Trump (Republican social access), Prince Andrew (royal access), Larry Summers and various Harvard figures (academic legitimacy).
Mutual Benefits
Network members who were not victims and did not participate in abuse still derived benefits from knowing Epstein: he provided access, introductions, and hospitality at his extraordinary properties. Private jet access was especially valuable and widely reported.
Maintaining the Network
Epstein maintained the network through a combination of hospitality (the island, the ranch, the Manhattan townhouse), financial association (managing or appearing to manage money), and intellectual flattery (he was famously skilled at engaging intellectually with experts in their fields).
The Protection It Provided
The breadth and power of the network was ultimately what made prosecuting Epstein so difficult: potential witnesses were also personal friends of powerful officials with the ability to apply pressure.
