Overview
The late physicist Stephen Hawking is among the prominent scientists documented at events connected to Jeffrey Epstein. Little Saint James Visits
Photographs that subsequently circulated showed Hawking aboard his motorized wheelchair on Little Saint James. These images, combined with the conference attendance, established that Hawking had been a guest at Epstein’s private island.
Nature of the Relationship
The relationship between Hawking and Epstein appears to have been one of many in which Epstein cultivated scientifically distinguished figures through conference invitations and hospitality. There is no suggestion that Hawking had knowledge of or involvement in Epstein’s trafficking activities.

Hawking died in March 2018 — several months before Julie K. Brown’s investigative series and before Epstein’s 2019 federal arrest. He lived to see the 2008 NPA and its subsequent criticism but did not see the full accountability reckoning.

After the photographs circulated widely following Epstein’s 2019 arrest, the Stephen Hawking Foundation and Hawking’s family did not issue extensive public statements about the relationship. Coverage of the photographs was generally framed as documenting Epstein’s science laundering network rather than as allegations against Hawking.
