Born December 25, 1961 in Maisons-Laffitte, France, Ghislaine is the youngest of nine children of Robert Maxwell — a Czech-born British media magnate and Labour MP who built Mirror Group Newspapers and the Pergamon Press publishing empire.
Robert Maxwell’s Death
In November 1991, Robert Maxwell disappeared from his yacht (named Lady Ghislaine) near the Canary Islands. His body was found floating in the Atlantic. Ruled accidental drowning or possible suicide. After his death, it emerged he had stolen approximately £460 million from his companies’ pension funds, and his empire collapsed.
How Ghislaine Met Epstein
After her father’s death, Maxwell moved to New York City and reportedly met Epstein in 1991 or shortly thereafter. Epstein provided accommodation, social connections, and financial support. She graduated from Balliol College, Oxford in 1985. Victim testimony from the mid-1990s identifies her transition from romantic partner to operational manager in the trafficking operation.
