The Arrest
On the morning of July 2, 2020, FBI agents descended on a rural property at 338 East Washington Road in Bradford, New Hampshire. They arrested Ghislaine Maxwell on six federal counts related to the Epstein sex trafficking operation.
The Property
The Bradford property had been purchased in December 2019 four months after Epstein’s death. Purchase records had been obscured: the property was bought through an LLC with limited public ownership information, and Maxwell had reportedly used a different name in some dealings connected to it.
The Charges
Maxwell was charged with:
- Sex trafficking of a minor
- Conspiracy to commit sex trafficking
- Transportation of minors for sexual activity
- Conspiracy to entice minors
- Perjury (related to her 2016 deposition)
Her Response at Arrest
Maxwell was taken into custody without incident. She was transported to the MDC in Brooklyn.
Significance
The arrest, coming four months after Epstein’s death had ended that prosecution, was seen as essential for the broader accountability of the operation. Many victims had feared Maxwell would never face prosecution.
