Maxwell as the Connector to Epstein
When Epstein and Maxwell became romantically involved in the early 1990s, Maxwell brought existing social relationships into the expanded circle. Andrew was one of these introductions. Epstein gained access to the Prince through Maxwell’s prior relationship, not the reverse.
The Key Timeline
Late 1990s–2000s: Photos and documented events show Andrew, Maxwell, and Epstein together at multiple social occasions in New York, London, and USVI.
2001: Virginia Giuffre (then Roberts) alleged that Andrew was one of the individuals Epstein instructed her to be with. This allegation was the center of the civil case Giuffre v. Andrew (Duke of York).
2011: Andrew gave the deeply damaging BBC Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis. He publicly defended his Epstein friendship, described a December 2010 visit to Epstein in New York after his prison release (which critics saw as endorsing Epstein), and implausibly denied remembering Virginia Giuffre.
2019: After Epstein’s arrest and death, Andrew resigned from public royal duties following public and media pressure.
2022: Andrew settled civil claims with Giuffre for a reported $12 million. The settlement included no admission of liability but required payment to Giuffre.
2023: Andrew was formally stripped of military titles and royal patronages, and his HRH style was suspended.
Maxwell’s Conviction and Andrew
At Maxwell’s December 2021 trial, Maxwell’s own connection to Andrew was referenced but Andrew was not a defendant. Maxwell’s prior relationship with Andrew was part of the social architecture of the network.
