Trial Overview
United States v. Ghislaine Maxwell was tried before Judge Alison Nathan in the Southern District of New York. The trial lasted approximately five weeks, from November 29 to December 29, 2021.
Charges: Sex trafficking of minors, enticing minors to travel for criminal sexual activity, transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and related conspiracy charges.
Verdict: Guilty on five of six counts on December 29, 2021.
Pre-Trial (November 2021)
Jury selection (November 17–29, 2021):

Week 1: Prosecution Opens (November 29 – December 3)

December 1: Government presents organizational evidence, flight logs, and photographs establishing Epstein-Maxwell relationship timeline.
December 2–3: First victim “Jane” testifies, describing how Maxwell groomed her starting at age 14 and facilitated abuse by Epstein in Palm Beach and New York.
Week 2: Victim Testimonies (December 6–10)
December 6–7: “Jane” cross-examination. Defense attempts to probe memory inconsistencies.
December 8: Second victim “Kate” (British woman now in her 40s) testifies about being recruited at age 17, gradually introduced to Epstein, and eventually abused. Maxwell personally facilitated encounters.
December 9–10: Kate cross-examination and additional government evidence including property records and travel documents.
Week 3: Key Witnesses (December 13–17)
December 13: Former Epstein Palm Beach house manager Juan Alessi testifies about daily operations, describing Maxwell as effectively running the household and giving instructions to staff.
December 14: Annie Farmer takes the stand — the only victim to testify under her real name. She describes being recruited at age 16 and abused at Zorro Ranch. Her sister Maria had reported Epstein to the FBI in 1996.
December 15–16: Annie Farmer cross-examination. Additional government witnesses including flight crew members.
December 17: Government presents evidence of Epstein’s financial payments to Maxwell and communications between the two.
Week 4: “Carolyn” and Defense (December 20–22)
December 20: “Carolyn” testifies — was 14 when first recruited in Palm Beach. Describes being paid $200–300 for massages, that Maxwell was present on multiple occasions. Defense extensively cross-examines on prior inconsistent statements.
December 21–22: Additional government witnesses wrap. Government rests its case.
Defense Case (December 22–27)
December 22–23: Maxwell’s defense calls character witnesses and an expert on memory reliability.
December 27: Defense rests without calling Maxwell to the stand.
December 27–28: Closing arguments. Both sides deliver passionate summations.
Deliberations and Verdict
December 29: After approximately 40 hours of deliberations over 5 days, the jury returns a verdict.
VERDICT: GUILTY on 5 of 6 counts.
