The Trial Begin
Ghislaine Maxwell’s federal trial began on November 29, 2021 in the Southern District of New York before Judge Alison Nathan. The government was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lara Pomerantz and Alison Moe.
Accusers Who Testified
Four women testified about Maxwell’s role in their abuse. Under court rules, they were initially identified by pseudonyms, though several later used their names publicly:
- “Jane”: Testified about being abused from age 14, meeting Maxwell through Epstein’s Palm Beach network
- “Kate”: A British woman who testified Maxwell recruited her in the UK
- “Carolyn”: Testified about being recruited through Palm Beach connections at 14; her testimony was corroborated by her mother
- Annie Farmer: Testified under her own name about being abused at Zorro Ranch at approximately 16

The Defense
Maxwell’s team argued the accusations were the product of recovered memories, financial incentives (victims’ compensation fund), and witness coaching. They called Maxwell’s personal assistant and a memory expert.
The Verdict
The jury deliberated for approximately 40 hours over 6 days. On December 29, 2021, they convicted Maxwell on 5 of 6 counts:
- Guilty: Conspiracy to entice minors, enticement of a minor, conspiracy to transport a minor, transportation of a minor, sex trafficking of a minor
- Not guilty: One count of enticing a minor (related to “Kate”)
