Defense Strategy

Jury Controversy
After the verdict, it emerged that a juror had disclosed during jury selection that he was a sexual abuse victim, but had not fully disclosed this. Judge Nathan held an evidentiary hearing. This did not result in a new trial.
Sentencing (June 2022)
Judge Nathan sentenced Maxwell to 20 years in federal prison — less than prosecutors’ 30-55 year request, more than the defense’s 5-year request.
