Background on the Unsealing
The documents were from the 2015 civil lawsuit brought by Virginia Giuffre against Ghislaine Maxwell — Giuffre v. Maxwell. The case had settled in 2017, but sealing orders placed over discovery materials and depositions meant the case’s contents were largely unknown.
Miami-based attorney Bradley Edwards and others had litigated for years to have these documents unsealed. After the Maxwell conviction in 2021, Judge Preska of the SDNY oversaw the unsealing process.
